HOW TO PUBLISH A LD/DISSERTATION AS A BOOK
Someone might be considering publishing his/her
dissertation as a book. There are several reasons why someone may want to turn
their dissertation into a book. The reasons could be anything from a book
giving them space to discuss their important findings in depth and detail, its
complexities to the repercussions. A well-written book provides and increases
your credibility when applying to any college or university as its faculty
member. These published dissertations have a longer shelf life than those which
have not been published.
If you are someone who is considering having their
dissertation published into a book, then certain steps need to be taken into
consideration :
Step 1: Choose/Identify Your Audience -
The book's structure and the content will be greatly
influenced by your target audience, and it may diverge significantly from your
dissertation. After all, the goal of a dissertation is to demonstrate your
expertise in and substantial contributions to your subject of study. A book, on
the other hand, is meant to fill a need for the reader.
Step 2: Identify the books that compete with yours –
Once you have identified a potential audience, you need
to familiarize yourself with the books they are reading. You must decide how
your book will address a need for this audience because it will be in direct
competition with these other books.
When you identify and read competing books, you should
pay attention to the topics that they cover and how the author writes about
these topics. Take into account the details included, how the text is organized
and arranged, and visual aids used such as photos, diagrams etc.
Step 3: Create an outline/layout for your book :
You may begin meticulously planning your book once you
know who it is designed for, have a thorough understanding of other successful
books in the same genre, and have a concept of how you might meet a need in
that genre. assemble an outline.
Step 4: Begin With Writing A Sample Chapter :
You will normally need to submit a sample chapter or two
if you want a publisher or agent to consider your book. You may be asked to
submit your first chapter or one of your best-written chapter.
Step 5: Choose
the right publishers or agencies.
Once you have a solid outline and one or two sample
chapters, you must find suitable publishers. Start by taking a look at your
list of competing books and finding out more about the publishers. Most
publishers require a persuasive sample chapter, a thorough book outline, and
evidence that you are aware of your target and the books that are already on
the market.
