Vikram Rai

Vikram Rai was born on 5th August1954 in Lucknow, India. He did his Masters in Geology from Lucknow University in 1975 where he topped. After serving BALCO and MEC for a short stint, he served the Geological Survey of India in various capacities in Jaipur, Lucknow, Itanagar and Bangalore. He superannuated as a Senior Director from GSI, Bangalore in August 2014. As a professional geologist, he was involved in investigating lesser Himalayas, Coastal Gujarat, Inland basins of Rajasthan, Indo-Gangetic alluvium and Arunachal Himalayas. Besides, he has imparted training to the newly recruited GSI officers as a core faculty of GSI Training Institute. He has compiled Geological maps and District Resource maps pertaining to the Northern Region of GSI. He is an avid traveller and has visited over 25 countries including UK, France, Austria, Italy, Germany, Netherlands and USA. He is currently a freelancer with interests in Geology, Nature Photography, Scientific Reporting, Management and Sher-o-shayri. He coordinates the Geological Survey of India Facebook Members Club with over 22000 members. The endeavour of the group is to take the rich legacy of GSI forward besides sharing the latest researches in Earth Sciences among the professionals and students. He has eclectic interests and has authored five books on various subjects. His book “Year Book 1947-2020” is a book on infotainment and entertainment containing all the important events listed in a lucrative manner is a resource book for competitive exams. His other two books co-authored with his Netherland based daughter Soumya are “Fragrant Urdu Couplets” and “A Book of Life Sutras”. His other two books are “Ahsase-Zazbat” (A book of self written Urdu and Hindi Poems) and the most recent “ Leading ladies of the Earth Scientists of India”.
